perhaps click the audio button in the top-right?
one logical reason for removing it comes to my mind:
having two audio controls isn't logical, remove one and use the main one. People that are used to the other control should learn to use the main control.

Better isn't specifically when you think it's better since you're only human which means odds are that you are to used to the old to see the new.

Or isn't that what you had in mind?

I feel your pain.
I have just tonight had to preview hundreds of royalty free tracks to find one that suits a TV ad. What a pain! I'd be happy just to double click and they open in quicktime but it seems impossible to set every mp3 on my system to default to quicktime!
oh the pain.

ok, but i see no way to control the volume level - which i think is absolutely neccessary. even so, having to bring a new window up and repositioning the mouse is NOT an improvment. apple should at least give us a choice of what to display in column view, in my opinion.

Quickview is the reasoning behind this. As dolce said, you can use the shortcuts to activate it or click on the icon in the toolbar of the finder window.
