It seems something is wrong with Facebook’s ‘Like’ button on Safari on the Mac.

Since yesterday I noticed that web pages that have a Facebook ‘Like’ button are jittery and they kick up the CPU usage by quite a bit. On my mac pro, with one of these pages open, the CPU usage for Safari goes up to nearly 70%. Scrolling stopes being smooth and the ‘Like’ button keeps flashing at least once per second, if not more.

The issue doesn’t happen on Chrome or Firefox, so it must be a bug in Safari in its execution of the button’s Javascript code.

Hopefully Facebook fixes this soon, otherwise, I would have to block Facebook on my system.
